School Trips Sutton

A one off school visit? Can you imagine how excited they are going to be to be going climbing? The following information should give you everything you need to see (you are a teacher or parent I presume!) if this is something that would fire up your young charges at a visit to Craggy Sutton.

Craggy Island indoor climbing

Introduction for school trips and educational visits

Forget soggy field trips in the park. . . forget fighting through London traffic. . . come to Craggy Island and have fun, get fit and learn all at the same time!

Craggy Island Sutton is one of the largest dedicated indoor bouldering centres in the country. Children love to climb and we are proud to be able to provide a safe environment to do so. While education is a large part of what we provide for youngsters, there is also an emphasis on FUN!

And the extra fun we offer at Sutton is our Caving system! See here.

In addition to school trips, school holiday courses and group visits so we are very skilled in ensuring your trip runs smoothly from the booking process and all the necessary paperwork to the actual day itself.

The centre itself has been designed to be welcoming and also to provide a range of climbing for every ability. A school trip lasts one or more hours and we provide one instructor for every 6 or 9 children, dependant on their age, where they will be able to both climb and Cave safely using our equipment.

Beware! Once you visit us you may well become a regular visitor as once experienced, most kids want to climb again. . . and again! Oh, and this is an activity where girls often outclass boys. It is certainly NOT a boys only thing!

Why is this venue great for School Trips and Educational Visits?
Indoor climbing hits so many keywords for education and personal development. Climbing is great for self esteem, trust, social interaction, teamwork, confidence building. It can also be used for science or mathematics using the dynamic nature of climbing for all sorts of applications and coursework such as gravity, forces, angles, lengths etc.

Typically our equipment can be used for personal/social development, health education, team work, team building, social interaction, motivation, problem solving and citizenship, just to name a few.

Don't forget about Physical Exercise! Did you know that indoor climbing is one of the best ways to keep fit?

What does a typical school trip or educational visit include?
We split your group into a maximum of 6 or 9 children per dedicated adult instructor, will give the children a brief safety talk and then kit them up with a helmet and head torch. After a warm up on the traverse wall we will get them climbing, starting easy to let them grow accustomed to the experience and then encouraging them to try climbs that will challenge their new-found climbing skills.

We are happy to tailor sessions to suit each individual group's needs and can cater for all ranges of ability – even within the same group.  If you have a specific requirement, for example, working towards part of the GCSE PE program, please contact us to discuss this in further detail before booking.

What size groups do we cater for?
We book in blocks of 6 or 9 children up to a maximum of 18 children for a one hour session inclusive of instruction and equipment. 8 years and above only.

What can we provide you with to support your school trip or educational visit?
We are happy to help as much as possible.

Can you take photos, video or audio? Are there any copyright restrictions?
Climbing is fun and exciting, and we encourage our visitors to work as a team, therefore we encourage photography to capture the enjoyment of the day as long as Craggy Island is credited if used for publication.
