General Information about Craggy Island Indoor Climbing Centre Guildford

Information for Climbers!

Climbing OutdoorsCraggy Island was built and is run by climbers. This means we make sure we offer the best indoor climbing we can for our customers and two centres for one membership price!

Experienced climbers are a varied lot, some of you are mad for it climb every day at 7b obsessives, and some of you like to bimble a few routes. But we all have something in common - enjoyment of the greatest and most natural pastime there is!

Climbing OutdoorsFirstly, we build the most innovative climbing centres we can.

Second, we try to make your visit as enjoyable as possible and that means investing in staff and systems. Our top quality membership system ensures you can get checked in quickly and get climbing, and our friendly trained staff can help out with any questions.

Next, we have some of the most dynamic route setting available. Good and varied routes ensure you are kept happy, increasing your performance and technique and we have spent an huge amount of time getting the balance of grades and types of routes balanced for our customers. Our resident route setter for both centres, Mark Croxall heads up our team of setters including high profile guest setters and we spend an average of 10 full days each month stripping routes, cleaning holds and getting great new graded problems up for you.

Don't forget to look out for our regular coaching sessions and courses. Whatever your grade you can always improve, and the best way to achieve this is to get some top quality coaching. Our coaches include Mark Croxall, Lucy Creamer, Gaz Parry and Neil Gresham.

Climbing OutdoorsWhile we would prefer you to only climb indoors, most climbers also dabble outside! We have partnered outdoor course and trip providers (see here) to offer the best outdoor climbing there is. We work with them because they are the best and keep close contact with them so that you can be assured you get the best.

Socially, Craggy is great. We have our Wednesday Social Evening, that for new climbers to the area is a good way to hook up with like minded climbers, but there is always a great atmosphere in our centres more like a climbing club than sports gym.
