If there is one thing children like to do as much as climb, it is explore a cave. Here at Craggy2 we have created a unique subteranean experience, a labyrinth of caves, tunnels and chambers complete with stalactites, fossils, cave paintings and a secret ball pit. The children will be equipped with a helmet and head torch and then sent into the dark! But don’t worry, the system has a number of escape exits and the party will have a supervisor on hand should anyone need to come out. Outside the caves there is plenty to climb on, some that is really easy and some that is a proper challenge. Exploration has never been this much fun!
Every party is supervised by one of our trained staff and they will try to involve all children to get the most out of the experience. But this is not a playground, to make sure everyone is safe the children have to understand their supervisor has the first AND last word.
We have developed a series of caving and climbing games suitable for all ages which your children might like to play, headed up by their supervisor. But this is entirely up to the children – many parties just like the freedom of exploring and playing in the unique environment. We developed these caves for a number of reasons – to let children (and adults!) experience what it feels like to be in a real pothole, but without the inherent danger, mud and water – but also to have fun!
Some children are apprehensive of dark and confined spaces. This is only natural. However, we find that after a short while they usually forget their fears and have a great time. We never force children to do more than they are prepared to do and use encouragement if needed.
There is a viewing gallery overlooking the room where you can watch your young people and wave occasionally while you sip a coffee. . . or you could walk next door where there is a restaurant and bar in the golf club at Surrey Oaks.
Each party lasts for one hour and must be pre-booked. Parties can be booked for ages 5+ years. When you book you will have the room to yourselves for the duration of the party. We recommend arriving around 15 mins before the party starts to ensure we collect the parental consent forms. We give the children a brief pre-caving safety talk before they enter the tunnels. All children climbing at Craggy Island must have a completed parental consent form or they will NOT be permitted to climb. While the tunnels are smooth and dry you will need to wear loose and comfortable clothes that you will not mind being crawled about in.
