Advance warning that we will be re setting both sides of the boulder wall this Monday 4th April. This means that the wall will be closed throughout the day while we set some new and exciting problems for you to all throw yourselves at!

In addition to this, the boulder wall will remain closed until 8pm that evening as we will be running coaching sessions for our Ladies night regulars. Both sides will be closed for this but will be fully open from 8pm onwards.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused but also thank you in advance for being patient on Monday!

Does your climbing need a little TLC?

March 30th, 2011 by Danie | No Comments | Filed in 3 Star Membership, Craggy Island News, Guildford News

If you’ve completed a Beginner’s Course or feel that your climbing has stagnated and are wondering as to the next step on the route to great climbing, then our hot-off-the-press new ‘Next Step’ course is for you!

You may know how to use the centre and are safe to climb but it can still be daunting to step out of your comfort zone and try harder climbs.

‘Next Step’ is specifically designed to lead you further into the great adventure that is rock climbing.  The course is structured as two 2 hour sessions on consecutive Monday evenings (19:00-21:00) and Sundays (13:30-15:30).  It is designed to improve confidence and develop skills and techniques to increase performance.

Course covers:

  • Belaying assessment and knot tying – to correct any bad habits and build confidence.
  • Techniques and body positions required for ‘seemingly’ effortless ascents.
  • Efficient footwork and how to trust your climbing shoes and foot position.
  • How to rock over, layback and drop your knee, form a crimp and use an open hand.
  • Explore training regimes for both finger strength, power and stamina.
  • Bouldering and use of finger boards.

Our ‘Next Step’ course is launching at Guildford at the beginning of May and costs just £59 per person!

Please give us a call on 0844 880 8866 for more information or to make your booking.

This means Mark and Co. will be setting the usual range of ladders to fierce problems to tax your climbing skills. As ever we aim to have the setting and testing completed by approximately 18:30 each day and the room back open for you to try the new routes.

With the new routes comes Boulder League (our fun climbing competition) so the next dates for you to work to are:

Thursday 27th May 2011

They are posted as events on the Craggy Island Facebook page so why not keep track of things there?

And finally Mark will be holding his technique sessions on Saturday 16th of April so if you are looking to improve your grade and technique why not give our reception team a call on 08448 808 866 and book a space now!
