Craggy2 welcomes the Southern Indoor Boulder League on Saturday 19th March

March 11th, 2011 by Gareth | No Comments | Filed in Craggy Island News, Sutton News

Craggy2 is looking forward to welcoming all competitors and their supporters to the final round of SIBL 2011 held on Satruday 19th March.  Mark Croxall our main route setter will be working hard in the run up to the competition to set  competition routes that will tax both beginners and pro’s alike.

The times for the day are as follows:

Registration: 10.00 – 12.00
Junior Comp start: 11:00
Open Comp start: 12.00
Junior finish: 16:00
Adult finish: 17:00
Head to Head: 17:15
Prizes/end: 17:45

The sponsors for this round are Lyon who have lined up some great prizes for the winners.
As an added bonus Rock On are sponsoring a prize draw traverse route (set by Dom). If you can complete the traverse you’ll be in with a chance of a prize!

With registration starting at 10:00 and the event running throughout the day, the whole of Craggy2 will be closed to public climbing until 18:00. We expect the centre to be open as normal from 18:00 for the last hour of the day and you’ll be able to climb for a reduced rate of £5.00.

Good luck to all our competitors and we’re really looking forward to seeing you all on the 19th!

Craggy Guildford – Welcomes the Youth Climbing Series this Saturday 5th March

March 4th, 2011 by Ben | No Comments | Filed in Craggy Island News, Guildford News, Route Setting

Craggy Island is looking forward to welcoming all competitors and their supporters to the BMC’s Youth climbing series being held at our Guildford centre this Saturday. We have been working hard all week to create some challenging and interesting routes to test these young climbers, set by our very own Mark Croxall. As our members will be aware, Mark is a former world bouldering champion and puts up the majority of routes and boulder problems at both Craggy’s. He has carefully set each route to be both challenging and fun at each grade level. So be prepared for some adventure!

It’s not all serious competition climbing though and there is a strong emphasis on fun through out the day, which all adds to a great atmosphere.

For those not competing, the competition will be starting from 10am and will be running throughout the day, which will mean there is restricted climbing in some areas of the centre. The areas not in use for the competition (Learning zone, Ice Box, Slabs, Profile Tower, etc.) will still be available for use during the day and taking into consideration the closures we would like to offer a reduced entry price of £4 for members still wishing to come in and climb.

We expect the centre to be open as normal from 6pm and normal entry prices will apply from that time.

I and the “Craggy Crew” would like to wish all the competitors the best of luck and most importantly hope they have a great day here at Craggy Island.

Ben Read  (centre manager)

Craggy2 Rock Room route-set and B-B-B-Boulder League, Round 2!

February 7th, 2011 by Gareth | No Comments | Filed in Craggy Island News, Sutton News

Ok, so who’s ready for some new routes in the Rock Room? Well you’ll not be waiting long! We’ve a whole load of new holds to set with (the funky red and white ones, brand spanking new from Osmose), and Mark Croxall will be back at the end of this month to set in his own unique style, accompanied by his protégé, Mike Hadcocks. Route setting will commence on Monday 21st February, and be finished by Friday 25th February.  As ever, we aim to have the room open by 18.00 every evening of that week.

On Thursday 24th February we will be having our infamous Boulder League, consisting of 15 brand new routes to clamber on (and on behalf of us over-worked staff, fall off!) starting at 18.30 (18.00 for the wee ones), with results at 21.30. There are 4 categories; Kids, Easy, Medium and Hard, and entry only costs a mere 1.50 on top of your normal entry – cheaper than chips!

So we look forward to seeing all your bright and happy selves brutalising all the new routes very soon!

Craggy2 route setting and Winter Boulder League 2011

January 12th, 2011 by Gareth | No Comments | Filed in Route Setting, Sutton News

New holds! The Comp Room here at Craggy2 will be reset the week of 24th – 28th of January 2011. Our route setting team will be here to create the usual range of problems from beginner to pro.

We’ve just taken delivery of over 400 new holds to expand our range and the opportunities for our route setters to create some problems to make you scratch your head and ponder!

As usual the room will be closed for setting  during the day and we will aim to have it fully open by 18:30 each day. The rest of the centre is open for climbing as usual.

Also as it’s a route setting week that can only mean one thing… Boulder League!

The first round of our Winter Boulder League 2011 will be running on Thursday the 27th of January, so get yourself down for an evening of fun competition.  Have a look here at the events on our Facebook page for full details.
